A year after the bankruptcy of VFX house Rhythm and Hues comes a documentary Life After Pi trailer.

A year after the collapse of Rhythm and Hues the Oscar winning VFX house that gave us Bebe which won it’s first Visual Effects Oscar and last year’s visual feast Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi” which won it’s second visual effects oscar comes a Documentary with the Visual Effects studio heads and artists decribing the events that took place with the bankrupcy filing  during  the oscars and what followed.  Coming out feb 25, 2014 tells  all of what happened and disillusion that took place at the Oscar’s presentation which was a total slap in the face to not only the winners but also the whole category and industry that with out Hollywood wouldn’t be able to make their movies .  Which started a firestorm felt worldwide as they totally disrespected an industry of artists and technicians that help make Hollywood it’s record breaking box office year.

  1. Hello, i think that i noticed you visited my web site thus i came to go back the favor?.I’m attempting to find things to enhance my website!I assume its adequate to use some of your concepts!!

  2. I do believe all the ideas you have offered in your post. They are very convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are very short for novices. May just you please prolong them a bit from next time? Thank you for the post:

    • Hi thanks for stopping by which concepts would u like more elaborate explaination on? The how everything started the Oscar crap storm afterwards when they put the jaws theme music at the exception speech and the amount of disrespect that was done on TV by Samuel Jackson while the rest of the avengers cast tried to present it normally. There were a lot of events that lead towards the Oscar night like the bankrupcy filing a week or so before they won the Oscar and how R&H lost millions doing the R&D for the Life of PI which was out of pocket. How Hollywood studios get subsidies for their blockbuster films.. The part with life of PI was that Ang Lee won the best director award and forgot to thank the Visual effects artists and techs who made the movie possible. Meaning with out them it would be a movie of only the kid and a cat on a boat with a lot of blue screen footage. Like I mentioned before the way they presented the Visual Effects category at the Oscars how they didn’t show any of the clips from the nominations which is an insult in it’s self but to cut off the speech early with jaws music wasn’t nice. And the fact that life of PI made huge amounts of money and the whole movie was a visual feast which could not have been done with out those visual effects artists and techs who worked very hard to create the movie because with out them there isn’t a movie only a storyline. Then there was the protests going on outside the oscars about 5 blocks up. Over 500 VFX artists out in force marching for change in the industry. That change is VFx industry doesn’t have a union like the writers guild or screenwriters guild or the directors guild or even the cinematographer guid and society. We only have the VIsual effects Society which is a honorary society not a
Union. The business models that Visual effects companies have in place isn’t stable for the longevity of the business . Studios want flat bids and
Vfx firms take it then comes the major changes wanted by the studios those changes doesn’t get re bid for the job once the work gets awarded then they stick to the original agreement which shouldn’t be because if there is more work typically it costs more but in this case R&H had to take the cost of all the changes and work with the original bid. That resulted in the bankrupcy filing by them for it. Which the studios got all the money from the box office and the government incentives for filming in Taiwan .. While R&H did all the real work and got stiffed for it.. They got paid but not all the money that they spent to create all the shots in life of Pi . The artists organized and are now taking the steps needed to stop all this madness of studios closing and all the subsidies that almost everyone on the planet is giving the Hollywood studio system so they can film there and spend money .. Which the taxpayer gets ripped off in the end. So hopefully that might begin to explain the current state of VFX for movies and TV. At the sametime the artist protesting are tring to keep or get back work that was lost due to all the subsidies in LA since now everything is being done outside and many artists are now jobless or still struggling to find work that wouldn’t normally be the case…
